Is your work influenced by season or changing weather?
Somewhat yes, I tend to gravitate toward warm and deep smelling scents for Fall and Winter and fresh and herbal smells for Spring and Summer.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?
I have a dear friend that sends me care packages pretty regularly with used clothes she finds while thrifting. They’re always the perfect size and the most flattering fit.
What is your favorite holiday tradition (new or old)?
I always loved gathering around the table and eating when I was younger. Now that my siblings and I have all grown, we end up hanging in the kitchen and sharing the cooking responsibilities with a lot of noise and opinions about how things should be made. Most of the activity and time spent together seems to be prior to the meal. The table and eating together is the most fleeting- I really love this shift, it feels more like us.
How do you find comfort? Any self-care rituals?
I love lighting Juniper Ridge sweetgrass incense and taking a bath or shower. I usually exfoliate my whole body after an especially stressful day with our salt or sugar scrub.
Do you have a favorite fall/winter/holiday memory?
My grandma used to come over for present opening every Christmas morning. I think she was more excited than us kids sometimes! She’d be there almost as soon as we woke up. One Christmas she was so early that she let herself in and was sitting like a creep in the dark living room waiting for us to wake up. When we all sleepily started moving and ventured downstairs Christmas morning, I remember my mother shrieking in fright when she turned on the light and then both of them laughing hysterically.
What is your go-to holiday dish?
Any dish with potatoes is my best friend. Roasted potatoes crusted with pesto, mashed potatoes with green onions, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, potatoes au gratin… name any other ones you can think of, I’ll take them!
