Is your work influenced by season or changing weather?
My work changes in color with the seasons. I love warmer hues in the spring and summer and cooler, richer hues in the fall and winter. In the winter, I’m always devising ways to layer my designs, since they’re intended for year-round wear most of the fabric weights we work with are ideal for layering.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?
When I was in college, I really cherished the care packages my parents would send me – it was a little bit of home in a box. Recently, we’ve been receiving bolts of fabric at the studio for SS17 production, and the most exciting fabric is a sea blue hemp summer cloth that will turn into jackets and matching cropped pants. Feeling the fabric for the first time was a thrill.
What is your favorite holiday tradition (new or old)?
On Christmas Eve every year, we watch It’s a Wonderful Life and snack on cookies, sausage, and cheese and drink eggnog (spiked with whiskey or brandy now that we’re adults).
How do you find comfort? Self-care rituals?
I find comfort at home with friends and family. Some of my self-care rituals involve grilled cheese and video games, maybe a bath and a good book every now and then.
Do you have a favorite fall/winter/holiday memory?
My husband Neil and I shared our first ever Christmas just the two of us, so we played board games by the fireplace and ate a ton and went to see Star Wars and the Hateful Eight. It was one of the most relaxing holidays I’ve ever had.
What is your go-to holiday dish?
One of my favorite holiday desserts are Georgia Street Slices, which we always serve on Christmas Eve. Our great grandma used to make them, and our family has continued the tradition. http://www.liebemarlene.com/2010/12/cookie-parties-and-georgia-street-slices/
