Is your work influenced by season or changing weather?

I definitely draw influence from the landscape and nature. I love going to the beach with my dog during any season and any weather. I’ve gone during some pretty bad storms, frigid days, and I love how much the landscape changes based on the elements.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?

My friend Ariele recently moved to the west coast and sent me a box of plums from a tree in her backyard — I baked several of them in a cake and froze the rest.

What is your favorite holiday tradition (new or old)?

I don’t have a particularly large extended family, but my parents have many longtime friends who they truly view as family. My whole life we’ve gone to a friend’s house on Christmas Eve night to eat a delicious spread, listen to music, and decorate a huge tree. The host has become a grandmother figure to me since I’ve known her my entire life. I love the idea of treating your friends as family, especially around the holidays.

How do you find comfort?

I love taking baths once the weather cools down! One of the few perks to summer ending.

Do you have a favorite fall/winter/holiday memory?

My dad and I both have September birthdays, and we have a tradition to go to the beach together to celebrate. Some years it’s still warm enough to get in the water, and other times it really feels like fall, but either way it kind of signifies the beginning of fall to me.

What is your go-to holiday dish?

My sister makes a dish every Thanksgiving that I love — pearl onions baked in a sauce with Gruyere cheese and a little cream.
