Is your work influenced by season or changing weather?
Yes, working with the cycles of the plants makes each season unique. Different friends emerge at different times. The spring is about St John’s Wort, the summer Calendula is popping, the fall is the time for Hawthorn and Aralia Berry, the winter for mushroom hunting.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?
My dear friend Ceri lives in London and she sends me the most amazing packages full of gifts and hand written notes. There is nothing like opening something that has traveled so far, especially when it was last touched by someone you love.
What is your favorite holiday tradition (new or old)?
As I get older, my love of crafting decorations for the holidays gets stronger. The process of transforming my environment to evoke a holiday vibe is a kind of magic.
How do you find comfort?
Comfort is a good meal with loved ones. No matter how busy I am, hosting dinner and sitting around the table with fam is a top priority.
Do you have a favorite fall/winter/holiday memory?
The changing of the leaves makes me incredibly nostalgic every year. There is something so powerful about the fall season, it makes me dreamy. Maybe it is the reminder to turn inwards, a sort of internal harvest, after blossoming and flowering of the spring and summer.
What is your go-to holiday dish?
Portabella mushroom bake: grind almonds, garlic, tamari, balsamic vinegar and rosemary to make a thick sauce. Pour sauce over de-stemed portabellas and bake. They will blow your mind.
