Is your work influenced by season or changing weather?
PHOEBE: Not usually. Our design process is very stop and start, and lasts for several months. So what we’re looking at often changes, and of course the weather changes, during that time. I’m sure the seasons find their way in somehow though!
What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten in the mail?
PETER: The best thing we ever received in the mail was the very first rug line we produced. Receiving it was horrible, of course, like moving apartments all over again. But it marked a whole new and exciting era for our brand.
What is your favorite holiday tradition (new or old)?
PETER: Christmas crackers
How do you find comfort?
PHOEBE: Almond oil after a bath. Tea. Taking meals in bed (a bad habit, but one I have no interest in breaking).
Do you have a favorite fall/winter/holiday memory?
PETER: Getting our first tree. That Christmas was also the first one we spent with our dog Phillip. We bought a tree and carried it home, and decorated it with loads of felted animal ornaments.
What is your go-to holiday dish?
Chicken Liver Pate (adapted from several other recipes)
- 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
- 3/4 – 1 pound chicken livers, rinsed and drained
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/3 cup white wine
- salt and pepper to taste
melt 1 stick of butter on medium in a large saucepan. add onion and cook about 3 minutes. add livers and stir. after a few minutes they should be cooked through. Pour in wine and raise heat to medium high. stir and add rest of the butter. Lower heat to low and cook 5 minutes. combine contents of your saucepan in a blender and blend until smooth. empty your pate into several little mason jars or ceramic dishes and let cool, covered, in fridge for at least 3 hours.
